The Film Alliance of the Ozarks is composed of filmmakers and citizens working together to better integrate film into the daily life of our community. We seek to reclaim film as an essentially social project by organizing skill workshops, collaborative events, and social initiatives designed to (1) involve members of our community in the process of filmmaking and (2) document the sights and sounds of our region.

Marking the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Film Alliance of the Ozarks presents three short films about the aftermath of the storm, each produced by a local documentarian. The event takes place at 6 pm, October 2, in the Pat and Willard Walker Community Room of the Fayetteville Public Library. Filmmakers will be present for the event, and each screening will be followed by a short Q & A session.
The three films cover several different issues of recovery: art, animal rescue, and education. Sunshine Morgan's film, "Reawakening," documents the reopening of the New Orleans Museum of Art six months after Katrina, featuring Pulitzer Prize winning author Richard Ford. Sarah K. Moore's "Gifts from the Storm" examines the Katrina refugees who ended up at a temporary animal shelter created in Fayetteville. And Derek Jenkins takes a DIY approach to filming sudents in the Recovery School District with a profile of one of the many teachers who flocked to New Orleans following the storm.
Admission is FREE.
The summerlong Field Mill Films Series, sponsored by the New Design Center and the Film Alliance of the Ozarks, culminates August 21 at 6 pm with the Local Artists/Local Filmmakers night. Focusing on the creative process and organized as a group exhibit, the event will feature a series of short films supplemented by artist Q&A's and behind-the-scenes material.
Films screened at the event will survey six Fayetteville artists, including Hank Kaminsky, Eugene Sargent, and Haley Duke. Local painter Sam King will produce a film in his own unique style during the event and in full view of spectators. The exhibit will take place in the first floor reception area and basement of the Mill Building at 525 South School Avenue. Filmmakers and Artists will be present.
Coffee and popcorn provided. Admission is $5.00.
